As you know, a movement for accountability and reform of our broken criminal justice system has erupted over the past week. For the last 18 months, SOUL and our allies have been demanding that Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez stand with the people to end the mass incarceration of our black and brown citizens in Cook County. Her failure to enact swift justice on behalf of Laquan McDonald is yet another example of how she has failed in her role and should now step down.
Tomorrow morning, 9:30 AM at 69 W. Washington, Clergy, Labor and Community Leaders will hold a press conference calling on Anita Alvarez to resign. Additionally, we will deliver a petition with 35,000 signatures calling for her resignation from office.
Clergy, Labor and Community Leaders Call for Resignation of Anita Alvarez
69 W. Washington, Chicago, IL
Thursday, December 3 – 9:30am to 10:30am
Press conference and action – 35,000 signatures will be “delivered” to Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office
The removal of former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy is good first step, but Anita Alvarez is as guilty, if not more, in the cover-up of the senseless killing of brother Laquan!
